I’m 58.
I now live in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Looking back at the things I once imagined doing when I was younger…
I started my own business.
I became an investor.
I took up ballroom dancing as an adult and even started my own ballroom dance community.
I dreamed of living abroad—and made that happen too.
I think I’ve managed to do quite a lot of what I wanted to do with my life.
I used to think that by the time you reach 58, you can more or less see what lies ahead, and you gradually start running out of things you want to do.
But somehow, I don’t feel that way at all.
It doesn’t feel like it’s ending.
Right now, I’m planning to start a company in Malaysia.
And I also want to build a big family—not connected by blood, and not limited by borders.
Neither of those things exists yet.
And somehow, I have a feeling that while I’m working on them, I’ll discover something else I want to do.
Maybe I’ve always been this way.
I do something. I think it’s finished. And then the view changes.
Suddenly, I can see something that wasn’t visible before.
“Hey, that looks interesting.”
And off I go again.
Recently, something else has been added to the picture.
People.
It’s no longer only about what I want to do with my own life.
I think it might be exciting to put some of my passion into other people’s lives, too.
Age doesn’t matter.
Nationality doesn’t matter.
Some of those people may be people I haven’t met yet. Others may already be in my life.
Maybe even someone reading this.
When I think about that, my life feels even further from ending.
I’m getting close to 60,
and somehow, that excites me.
A life that doesn’t feel like it’s ending…
isn’t such a bad life at all.
